Trump has Ordered General Motors to Make Ventilators Under Defense Production Law

Corona virus outbreak has not just disrupted economies all over the globe but has even spurred unusual tensions between the manufacturers and the nation’s administration. The focus is on to General Motors and the US President, Mr. Donald Trump where the latter has ordered the former to manufacture the ventilators under the defense production law. Due to the fact that the worldwide healthcare organizations are facing the scarcity of the most essential medical devices, such as ventilators; various automotive companies have entered this realm. However, with the case of General Motors, things seem to be forced and disturbed. At least the thread of tweets done by the US President Mr. Donald trump reveals so. The fist line of message via tweet done by Trump says, “This invocation of the DPA should demonstrate clearly to all that we will not hesitate to use the full authority of the federal government to combat this crisis”.

Past few years back too, there were a series of heated up tweets by Trump on General Motors had announcement towards heading the halt of five North American plants which further eliminated thousands of jobs. This was done by General Motors for the motive of easing the burden of spending billions of dollars to develop the battery-powered vehicles of the forthcoming time. However, this move has annoyed the North America as a result of which the White House has questioned the legitimacy of those plans! As of now, it was not clearly anticipated as what provoked the tweets, which shocked the company. However, this tension between the twos has almost stretched to this level even in the global pandemic no clarity on ventilator production is observed.

“As usual with ‘this’ General Motors, things just never seem to work out. They said they were going to give us 40,000 much needed Ventilators, ‘very quickly’. Now they are saying it will only be 6000, in late April, and they want top dollar. Always a mess with Mary B. Invoke ‘P’,” the second tweet followed. “Our negotiations with GM regarding its ability to supply ventilators have been productive, but our fight against the virus is too urgent to allow the give-and-take of the contracting process to continue to run its normal course,” Trump said in the statement. “GM was wasting time.”
