Truck aprons can be found on roundabouts and slip lanes. This allows large vehicles (trucks , buses and recreational vehicles) to navigate or rotate roundabouts without hitting fixed objects or other road users. According to Alberta Transportation , Truck aprons are designed to support the weight of heavy trucks and allow long vehicles to rotate safely through roundabouts. The truck apron is located between the road portion of the roundabout and the inner circle of the roundabout. In the slip lane , the truck apron is located between the road surface (bitumen) and the sidewalk. Truck aprons with both roundabouts and slip lanes occur slightly, in an attempt to keep light vehicles on the main road surface. Truck aprons are made of reinforced concrete. Many North American planners, designers and builders have attempted to make truck aprons and roundabouts more attractive by stamping and coloring concrete. Concrete in the street looks like red paving stones.
