The top 10 global smartphone manufacturers have been on a roll, but there’s been some rises and fall and an addition to the list of these smartphone manufacturers. 2019 has not been a great year for businesses across the globe with the rising US-China trade war, growth being flat and the world economy looking at an economic meltdown. The smartphone shipments have been flat for the third quarter of 2019. The total shipments touched around 380 million which was around 379.8 million units during the last year during the same period. This flat growth rate doesn’t highlight whether this is due to the economic meltdown or has the market saturated or is there any other factor that is to be considered?
- Samsung
The first on the podium is undoubtedly the South Korean conglomerate that is ‘the Samsung’. Samsung has continued to march on with a year-on-year sales of 8% globally and take the number one position. This has been followed by the company’s A series and Note 10. Samsung also has a great product mix and a diversified product portfolio that covers all the classes of the buyer.
- Huawei
The Chinese major has grown exorbitantly with a CAGR of 28.5% year on year. The company has grown enormously in China with a total market share of 40%. The US-China trade war had put a positive effect on the nationalism wave across the country and the number shows as well the same story.
- Apple
The Cupertino and the US giant maker Apple has witnessed a downfall in shipments of 4% and as a result, has seen an erosion in revenues of 11% year on year. The company has seen strong sales at the tail end of the year with the launch of the iPhone 11 series. This has been a positive sign for the Cupertino as the company had witnessed bad numbers in the recent quarters. This may be a sigh of relief.
- Oppo
The BBK group-owned company has lost considerably in the global market share during these recent quarters. The company saw its shipments fall to 32.7 million from 33.9 million the previous year. The CAGR fell to 8.6% from 8.9% the previous year.
- Xiaomi
Xiaomi saw a decline in shipments to 31.7 million from 33.3 million the previous year. Huawei’s gain in China has come at Xiaomi’s cost, but the company has held its numero uno position in the Indian market.
- Vivo
Another company owned by the parent BBK group has seen a considerable fall to 29.5 million from 30.5 million last year during the same period last year. Also, the company’s market share fell from 8% to 7.8% year on year.
This has clearly shown the Chinese dominance and their manufacturing prowess over the smartphone industry. Chinese technology has evolved leaps and bounds and this because of the government’s pro policies regarding manufacturing and subsidizing the infrastructure push as well.
