Surgical Sutures Market to see Rapid Growth by 2029

The global Surgical Sutures market is anticipated to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% during the forecast period (2023-2030). The market’s growth is attributed to growing demand for surgical sutures. It has resulted from an increase in surgical procedures, that has been fueled by reasons such as an aging population and the incidence of chronic diseases. According to National Library of Medicine research, estimated that out of the total 3646 surgeries needed in Indian population per year, 26% would be general surgical procedures, 20% would be obstetrics and gynaecological surgeries, and 13% would be Ophthalmological surgeries. Similar studies describing proportions of specific specialty surgeries from Asia are few, but some of the pacific islands like Papua New Guinea have documented estimates of surgeries in each specialty at the country level. They have documented 783 surgeries performed per 100,000 population. The estimated percentages of general surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology and ophthalmological surgeries were 50%, 46% and 4%, respectively. Similarly, higher proportion of essential gynaecology and general surgical procedures have been documented in African countries, where total volume of surgeries performed is low According to National Institute of Health, in fact surgery was required in 30.6 percent of hospitalizations or nearly one in three. Surgery was conducted in an outpatient setting at least 58.5 percent of the time and it is estimated that there had more approximately 17 480 operations performed for every 100,000 person-years.

According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, surgical site infections (SSIs) continue to be a significant source of morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and death despite improvements in infection control procedures, including better operating room ventilation, sterilizing processes, barriers, surgical technique, and accessibility to antibiotic prophylaxis. According to reports, SSI accounts for 20% of all healthcare-associated infection (HAIS), is linked to a 2- to 11-fold increase in the risk of mortality, and is directly responsible for 75% of SSI-associated deaths.3,4. The most expensive HAI type, SSI, has an estimated yearly cost of $3.3 billion, increases hospitalizations by 9.7 days, and increases hospital expenses by more than $20,000 for each admission3,5.
