Cancer is one of the scariest diseases that are prevalent across the globe. A long-term study of more than 100,000 people confirms that the daily intake of juices and soda may increase the chances of getting cancer.

A recent study shows that drinking a small glass of a sugary drink per day may increase the chances of getting close to this deadly disease. During the study, it was found that 100 ml of juice/soda containing sugar, estimated to be around one-third of normal size can of soda increase the risk of getting cancer to around 18% and a 22% increase in risk for breast cancer.

Moreover, more than 100,000 French adults were taken for the study and were keenly observed. It has been found that the daily intake of juice and soda or other sugary drinks increases the risk of some type of cancers. Recent study also links this consumption of sugary beverage to greater risk of premature death.

The shocking revelation from the study shook the internet for a while. The results unanimously indicate that the the consumption of sugar-sweetened drinks increases the risk of cancer. “Surprisingly, the increased risk of cancer in regular consumers of sugary drinks was observed even among consumers of pure fruit juice that surprises everyone.

Mr. Touvier, the research director of the Nutritional Epidemiology Research Team of the National Health and Medical Research Institute at the Paris 13 University France shared his opinion. He said that the sugar was the main factor in those juices/soda, that increased the chances of cancer among the people, during the study.

Mr. Touvier also highlighted the fact that regular consumption of most of the high sugary drinks is a risk factor for obesity and weight gain which increases the chances for cancer. Another possibility is that additives, such as 4-methyl-imidazole, which is commonly present in aerated drinks that contain caramel coloring, that could play a vital role in cancer formation.

Mr. Touvier suggested to limit the daily intake of sugary drinks to avoid chances of getting cancer. Further, he said that the US leading beverage companies are working together to curb sugar intake by providing more choices with less sugar or zero sugar, small package, clear product labelling right up front of the product. Mixed responses were reported for the study, however, artificial sweeteners being a health risk has been a point of debate for a long time. All the drinks and juices have already been under regulatory authorities, this study will further create problems for the sugary drink manufacturers and other stake holders.
