The recent spread of COVID-19 has disrupted lives, livelihoods, communities, and businesses across the globe. In this Covid-19 pandemic, the North American cosmetic industry was impacted severely as well. The cosmetic industry consists of domains such as fragrances, hair care, makeup, skincare , and toiletries products. Almost all of these segments are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdowns across the North America region. Various cosmetic organizations across the globe are coming together and finding innovative ways to minimize the impact on their business. The disruptions in supply chains and the closing down of most of the stores until future notice are major reasons for the slow growth rate of the North American cosmetic market during the pandemic.

In order to survive the COVID-19 pandemic, the cosmetic companies are shifting their business to complete online platform. The penetration of the internet and smartphones is already very high in the North American regions. Hence, taking the business online is not much of the problem for the cosmetic companies operating in North America. The cosmetic companies are hosting various online events for their client and are including many popular celebrities in these online events to increase the appeal of the events. For instance, Nudestix Inc. a Canada based cosmetic company is hosting live masterclasses on their Instagram platform every Sunday and Wednesday. Additionally, the company has also declared to donate all the sales during this period to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Along with saving their businesses, the cosmetic companies in North America are also participating in other events to fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. For instance, Cosmetic brands such as Estée Lauder brand donating two million surgical masks for front-line workers in New York and Clinique is donating 50,000 skincare products to the doctors and nurses in New York City’s hospitals. The cosmetic industries key players such as L’Oréal, Louis Vuitton, and Estee Lauder are producing hand sanitizers in response to the shortage of medical supplies and equipment. The cosmetic companies across North America have collectively produced over 240,000 units of hand sanitizer, which will be distributed to hospitals, frontline workers, and customers across the North American region.

Along with key industry players, regional cosmetic companies are also doing their part in the fight against the COVID-19 outbreak. For instance, Sam & Lance is donating second care create to a frontline health-care worker on the purchaser of care crate from them. Another company named Upfront Cosmetic is taking commitments to aid families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company is donating a share to various clubs across Canada for every single shampoo or conditioner bar purchased through the brand’s website.
