A microwave radiometer is a radiometer that calculates the energy emitted at sub millimeter-centimeter wavelengths, known as microwaves. Microwave radiometers are very delicate receivers designed to measure thermal electromagnetic radiation emitted by atmospheric gases. The radiometer contains argon gas, which can be rotated. They are usually equipped with several receiving channels to determine the characteristic emission spectra of atmospheric or extraterrestrial objects. Microwave radiometers consist of an antenna system, microwave radio frequency components (front-end) and a back-end for signal processing at intermediate frequencies. Microwave radiometers or passive type microwave sensors are used to measure thermal radiation on ground surfaces and/or in atmospheric conditions.
