Level meter market , a device that measures the intensity of noise, music and other sounds. A typical meter consists of a micro for picking up sound and converting it into an electrical signal, followed by an electronic circuit for operating on this signal so that the desired characteristics can be measured. The display device is usually a calibrated meter that reads the sound level in decibels (the log unit used to measure sound intensity in decibels). The threshold of hearing is about 0 decibels for the average young listener, and the threshold of pain(very loud)is about 120 decibels, indicating a force 1,000,000,000,000 (or 1012) times greater than 0 decibels.
