A jet bridge also called jetway, air gate, air bridge, air bridge or passenger boarding bridge (PBB) is a closed and movable connector, which mainly extends from an airport terminal gate to an airplane and, in some cases, from a port to a boat or ship, allowing passengers to board without getting out and being exposed to the elements. Depending on the design of the building, the heights of the thresholds, refueling positions and operational requirements, a jet bridge can be fixed or movable, swing radially and / or extend in length. Small airports do not usually use jet bridges, but instead opt for escalators or wheelchair lifts. Terminal gate allows one aircraft to park at a time, so running out of terminals is the major drawback of the jet bridges market. Jet bridges provide dry access to aircraft in all weathers and enhance the safety of terminal operations. They are often permanently attached to one end by a pivot (or rotunda) at the terminal building and have the ability to pivot left or right. The cabin, at the end of the loading bridge, can be raised or lowered, extended or retracted, and can pivot, to adjust aircraft of different sizes.
