Those days are close to an end where passengers had to spend long train journeys just by looking out through the window. Though a window seat is a beautiful thing if talking about the train journey, a little bit of entertainment on the go does no harm to the people. Indian Railway will be providing Content on Demand Services on trains as well as at a number of railway stations that provide free Wi-Fi access.
The Content on Demand Services will get installed at a total of 8731 trains across all 17 zones of Indian Railways, which will include 3003 trains pan India, and 2,864 pairs of suburban trains. It has been confirmed by the authority that Content on Demand Services will be available at all the Railway Stations, where free Wi-Fi is available which, as of now, has crossed 5563 Railway stations.
After the completion of this project, the passengers will have hassle-free access to either free or subscription-based entertainment app. In addition, the users will have access to high-speed streaming in their personal devices during their journey. With this streaming app, the users will be able to see shows, movies, as well as educational programs. This streaming app will be available to the users in paid and unpaid formats.
RailTel signed an agreement with a subsidiary of Zee Entertainment, Margo Network for providing entertainment services. in addition, the app will provide e-commerce services through which the users can book tickets using their platform.
The services are expected to be delivered and the project is expected to be completed by 2022, as confirmed by CMD at RaiTel Puneet Chawla. With this project, the Indian Railway is aimed at improving the overall passenger experience, which in turn, will increase the non-fare revenue through multiple monetization models.
