The US automotive ceramics market is estimated to grow at a CAGR of 5.6% during the forecast period. Stringent vehicle emission regulations are one of the factors driving the US automotive ceramics market. The Tier 3 Motor Vehicle Emission and Fuel Standards program is part of a broad approach to decrease the effect of motor vehicles on public health and air quality. This vehicle emissions standards will decrease both evaporative and tailpipe emissions from medium-duty passenger vehicles, passenger cars, some heavy-duty vehicles, and light-duty trucks. The gasoline sulfur standard will allow more strict vehicle emissions standards and make emissions control systems more effective. In 2017, Tier 3 was started that establishes new vehicle emissions standards and reduces the sulfur content of gasoline.

Ceramics in exhaust systems provide an extremely efficient way for the purification of vehicle emissions and improve the quality of air. Ceramic Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) are primarily efficient, with some eliminating approximately 100% of soot from the exhaust emissions. Currently, DPF systems are being equipped as standard on several diesel vehicles, primarily heavy machinery, large trucks, and coaches. Apart from ceramics, other materials are also used in exhaust filters. Metal and paper fibers can also be utilized to filter diesel particles. Although, ceramic filters are cost-effective, are extremely durable, are easy to mass-produce, and offer fine filtration of particles.
