The automaker company in China, BYD Co. has become the largest producer of the face mask across the globe. The Shenzhen facility of the company in China now produces five million masks every day and is now planning to further expand capacity. The manufacturing plant also produces more than 300,000 bottles of disinfectants a day. The outbreak of Coronavirus pandemic that swiped the whole world is the reason for sudden increase in the demand for face masks with a major shortage for the same.
The company expanded its production from 300,000 to 500,000 masks in a day and is now producing 5 million masks, since it has started manufacturing from February 8, 2020. This is equal to the quarter of entire mask production capacity of China in early February, according to the company.
The Chairman of the company appointed a task force of 3000 engineers for building production lines at the existing plant using 90% of in-house components. China is the largest producer of face masks in the world and the COVID-19 outbreak has further surged the demand for masks, along with hand sanitizers. On February 22, 2020, the country produced around 44.8 million masks in a day, about 2.8 times more than February 1.
With the strong R&D capabilities of the company coupled with its manufacturing facilities, the company has been successful in mass-production of quality masks in a short period of time. The production of mask requires impeccably clean and sterile environments, and dust-free rooms of the company that were previously used for smartphones assembly served the purpose.
