The outbreak of the pandemic has disrupted almost everything, impacting assailability to the lives of lacs of people across the globe. The number of COVID-19 cases is increasing at an exponential rate across the globe. This COVID-19 outbreak has triggered the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) significantly. Several AI-based platforms are helping in the population screening, tracking the spreads of infection, prevention, surveillance, notifications of when to seek medical help, and others. Many country’s governments are using ML’s predictive model algorithm to make sensitive decisions, such as when and for how many days a lockdown is required, forecasting of the requirements the essential medical equipment, forecasting of the spread of infection, and others.
Serious COVID-19 affected countries such as China, along with several European and American countries are using AI-powered platforms to monitor the health of every individual and to track the geographical spread of the virus. They have placed the AI-powered temperature scanner and image scanner at several public places where large numbers of public gathers, such as subway, railway station, airport, shopping mall, and others. Countries such as Austria and Italy are using the AI technology to determine the effectiveness of the lockdown imposed by the government, this AI technology is using the location data transmitted by the cell phones to analyze the spread of infection
In the healthcare segment, AI has a crucial role. The AI technology can analyze a chest scans image and it reduces the growing burden on radiologists. The Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and Tongji Hospital in Wuhan developed an AI-based diagnostic tool, which can analyze the blood sample of a patient to find out the survival rates. India’s healthcare giant the Apollo Group introduced AI-based mobile application for self-test of COVID-19. In April 2020, Thriona and Delft Imaging collaboratively launched CAD4COVID, it is a free AI-Powered tool to analyze X-ray images to help triage COVID-19 cases and indicate the affected lung tissue.
Various tech giants are now standing against COVID-19 pandemic with their innovative AI-powered applications. China’s one of tech giant Baidu and the scientists of Oregon State University and the University of Rochester made available its AI-powered platform Linearfold algorithm. This platform can predict the virus’s secondary RNA structure and can predict how viruses spread across species. This platform can do all these things in a 120 times faster way than the traditional method. London based tech company Benevolent AI uses AI technology to identify potential COVID-19 treatment. These are the factors that are emerging the use of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and analytics in fighting against COVID-19.
