Is Artificial Intelligence the Future of Farming??

Artificial intelligence in agriculture is bringing a paradigm shift is such a way that is helping farmers better manage their costs through e-governance onto a common platform by amalgamating the local government bodies in the process. There has to be a process to fetch all the data of the farmland in the district and this will be done through an artificial intelligence decision support system that will be of a huge number. All kinds of grading of that data will be scrutinized based on the weather condition, resources, availability of water and quality of the soil.

The farmland’s soil profile is unique but at present, the agriculture department suggests sowing of crops based on average production of the area. Administrative departments, as decided to create an individual profile of each farmland based on its various parameters and soil quality. This will make the farmers more aware of the best-suited crop based on these parameters, this is done to maximize the benefits of the farm’s productivity and the income generated.

In today’s date and time, the farmers are using AI optimally to analyze the weather forecast to have a better idea of when to optimally increase the productivity of the crops and maximize revenue by reducing the risk of weather-related uncertainties. Since, the weather is a very dynamic natural component in agriculture and can change anytime with the development of low pressure that could bring rains or heavy showers. Farmers are now using AI capabilities in these areas as well. It is very important in present times to have seasonal forecasting to reduce the risk of crop failures. Due to climate change and global warming, there has been a very unpredictable pattern in the weather that has been very evident in the last 2 decades data. It is very important to focus on small farmers and their small-scale produce as these folks contribute to nearly 70% of the world’s crops.

The problem of labor is a problem

The culture of farming is been looked down upon and there are fewer and fewer farmers these days. The world needs technology-savvy farmers that embrace technology and use it to increase their productivity manifold. There has been a trend observed across the globe that the people who have been traditionally involved in the agriculture sector since generations haves started to deviate and find new pastures in their career. This has addressed the job issue, however, it created many new ones like the lack of knowledge passed from generations about farming ensuing the same techniques with modern technologies. With this, the productive yield has been reduced drastically which is very no good news for people across the globe. Many emerging economies are still predominantly agrarian economies which are slowly shifting to the second tier and third tier economies. There has been undisguised unemployment quite evident and prone to emerging economies and this has opened up new opportunities for AI enabled agricultural bots. The AI enabled agriculture bots can be multipurpose and can replicate almost all the manual and labor-intensive work that was traditionally done previously like accurate and requisite amount of weed removal and with the same precision and intensity to harvest and segregate the produce. This in turn reduces costs and improves productivity.

No one wants to run out of food and hunger, but with limited resources and unlimited needs forget about the wants, this is where we are unfortunately heading towards to. AI and cognitive technologies will ensure that the world is able to run more efficiently with less workforce but more productivity at a very cost efficient and using the least amount resources. The one most important fundamental need is the need for food. Everything revolves around it. Its great that these cognitive enabled technologies will ensure that the world is well fed.
