Urban air mobility (UAM) projects are gaining considerable attention across the countries, such as the US, UK, Germany, China, Japan, and France. The government of these countries and UAM players are actively working towards the development of commercial and passenger vehicles. Several UAM projects are under development for electric aircraft and drone development to transport goods and passengers across the countries. As a result, several partnerships for the development of UAM platforms have been witnessed across the globe. One of the major partnerships for UAM include BAE Systems collaboration with Jaunt Air Mobility, which was held on 5th December 2019.
This agreement aims to examine the development of electric energy management systems for UAM vehicles. Together, these companies will examine product development for aircraft electrification. Both companies will work together to investigate the needs of aircraft power management. This will allow getting a profound understanding of the urban traffic into the airspace. BAE Systems holds a significant experience regarding the development of electric propulsion systems. It has over 10,000 electric and hybrid solutions on marine vessels and transit buses globally. This includes key cities such as San Francisco, New York, Paris, and London.
Jaunt Air Mobility LLC is engaged in the development of innovative air vehicles by combining management strategies and innovative technologies, to offer maximum levels of operational efficiencies and safety. The company designs and develops its Reduced Rotor Operating Speed Aircraft (ROSA) solution for UAM. BAE Systems expertise in the development and integration of power management and high integrity controls systems will offer an edge to develop future air vehicles for urban settings.
Likewise, on 10th October 2019, Porsche and Boeing signed an MOU to explore the future of premium urban air mobility. Through this partnership, these companies will accelerate the strengths and insights in the market to investigate the next-generation premium personal urban air mobility vehicles. Under the collaboration, these companies will understand several urban air mobility aspects, such as the study of the market potential for premium vehicles. Engineers from both companies will implement and test a prototype. These partnerships are creating a pathway for innovations in urban air mobility platforms. This will bring together precision engineering, style and innovation to leverage UAM across the globe. This initiative will lead the electric and autonomous aircraft development, which in turn, will transform the future of transportation in urban settings to ease congestion.
