Hiranandani Group opens giant data center in Mumbai to tap digital economy

Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT, said the world’s second largest data center opened in Mumbai. The Hiranani group added that it has developed a world-class infrastructure for data centers.

Keeping in mind, the current scenario where social distancing is the need of the country, the CM of Maharashtra, Mr. Uddhav Thacekray has virtually inaugurated this world’s second largest data center in Mumbai.

For data storage, self-reliance could probably the apt choice for any business. According to the Million Insights report, the global data center networking market is expected to reach $41 billion by 2025, with a CAGR of 11% from 2019 to 2025.

The Union Minister Communications, Electronics & IT, said that the nation has enormous potential to become a dynamic data economy and a good hub.

In 2016, Hiranandani built two data centers for NTTCom-Netmagics offices in Japan, which is when they realized the business reach and saw the feasibility of its expansion in India. Therefore, they have already started the construction of NM1 in India from the last year.

The already established giants including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure have also marked their presence in India. However, what raises a question here is if Hiranandani will rent the data center to Microsoft or AWS for cloud footprints.

This new plant as the data center is constructed in Panvel on the site area of 20-acre. “We raised 3,500 rupees to build a data center over the next few years. The firm has further decided to explore Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad with the emerging economies of Asia Pacific/West Asia.

“The growth projection for this business is in the range of 35 per cent for a 3-5-year CAGR,” said Naveen Mishra, senior director, Gartner. “Covid-19 has accelerated Cloud and digital tech usage, in which hyper-scalers will be winners because IT spend will decline but Cloud will remain in double-digits.”
